Leanne Selman Obituary, Death – 41-Year-Old Citibank Employee Killed in Tragic Florida Workplace Shooting
The Tampa Bay community is mourning the tragic death of Leanne Selman, a 41-year-old Palm Harbor resident and longtime Citibank employee who was fatally shot during an attack at the company’s Sabal Center campus in Hillsborough County, Florida, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Leanne’s sudden death has left her family, friends and colleagues devastated. She had worked for Citibank for nine years and served as a Learning Advisor with Citi Security and Investigative Services, building professional relationships with coworkers throughout her time at the company.
According to information provided by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred shortly after noon at the Citibank corporate campus at 3800 Citibank Center, near Brandon.
What Happened at the Citibank Campus?
Investigators identified the suspected gunman as 35-year-old Jacob Pearson of Orlando. Authorities said the attack followed a dispute involving approximately $2,500 in debt owed to the financial institution.
According to investigators, Pearson had threatened violence against Citibank earlier that morning after learning about an upcoming court hearing connected to the debt.
Shortly after 12:10 p.m., he allegedly drove through a security gate at the corporate campus before opening fire.
Leanne was outside on her lunch break when she was struck by gunfire. Investigators said she had no known personal connection to Pearson and was not involved in the financial dispute that preceded the attack.
Emergency responders arrived and attempted to assist her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Security Officer’s Intervention Ended the Attack
After the shooting, Pearson reportedly entered a building on the campus, where he encountered an armed Citibank security officer identified as 38-year-old John Fraley.
Authorities said Fraley fired at Pearson, bringing the attack to an end. Pearson was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Four other individuals received medical treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
More than 3,200 employees were reportedly at the corporate campus when the violence occurred, prompting a major emergency response involving hundreds of law enforcement personnel.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the security team’s intervention, emphasizing the importance of the quick response in preventing further casualties.
